As we swelter in the sun it is difficult to remember the dark, dank
winter and all the trials, tribulations and triumphs of another long,
successful season. Our magnificent Annual Dinner on Saturday with over
150 Dragons present was slotted between football action:
> The Girls showed the boys U12's how to play football in the first
quarter of a thrilling contest on Saturday. With their first full season
under their belts however, the veteran U12's gradually pulled ahead
demonstrating greater fitness to eventually win
> The Kensington Place adults team bolstered by the Dragons U12's, U15's
and U16's Coaches beat Moscow Spartak 4-3 on Saturday. On closer
inspection Spartak turned out to be a touring side from Dublin.
> The U14's lost 1-3 in the last 5 mins of extra time to league leaders FC
Roundwood at St Marks in the Supplementary Cup. The Dragons scored first
with a lobbed ball over the keeper only to have it disallowed by the Ref
who was not on form for this crucial game. The frustration of the
Dragons was heard resounding across North Kensington. Roundwood scored
just before half time against the run of play. The Dragons took on
gallons of water and went out to overcome the Roundwood giants. The
Dragon breakthrough came with beautiful work off a corner. The winner
nearly followed from another corner but the ref blew for full time. It
was onto extra time. The next goal would have sealed the match and
unfortunately it was not a Dragon goal. The boys gave it everything and
did all to win. The amassed crowds applauded the spectacular conclusion
to a tough football season.
> The U18's defeated Headstone Manor 4-1 at St Marks in a rather easy
victory. The Dragons dominated the first half to lead 2 - 0 at halftime.
The Dragons should finish 3rd in the premiership. A very credible result
only marred by the realisation that the Dragons beat both the winner and
the runners up but lost to lesser teams. Winning a division is a
marathon where one slip up on a wet windy November morning can come home
to roost in sunny May.

As the season draws to a close the Dragons are winning most of their
matches. Our success is of course only possible through the support of
our sponsors Bective Leslie Marsh, Elgin Capital, Clarendon and the Met
Police with the Council, RBKC, providing the facilities - albeit at a
charge! Thank you. On to the results:
> The U18's beat Headstone Manor 1-0 away on Tuesday in a well mannered,
competitive contest. The Dragons were much the better side but could not
convert and it was 0-0 at halftime. The U18's are currently in 3rd place
with 2 games in hand.
> The U17's beat Parkfield 2-0 on Thursday at St Marks under the watchful
eye of refereeing legend Howard Cartz. Remarkably there were no sending
offs and the game finished in good order the Dragons worthy winners.
> The U17's beat Brookhouse 1-0 on Sunday at St Marks in a tough physical
game which had produced no goals at half time. Back on the pitch the
Dragons showed their mettle and grafted away despite all provocation to
be awarded a penalty which they duly converted to secure a hard fought
Dragon win. The U17's have triumphantly regrouped since Christmas and
can hardly remember what it is like to lose - except when they play the
Dragon U16's of course.
> The U16's were awarded 3 points on Saturday away as Brunswick defaulted
being unable to field a team when confronted with the thought of another
thrashing at the hands of the Dragons.
> The U15's lost 2-6 on Tuesday at St Marks against St Andrews in a
performance to forget. The Dragons went 2-0 down and then pulled back to
2-2 but with some awful defending and lack of pressure it was difficult
to perform against the league leaders. Lack of match practice clearly
showed at this abysmal result and performance not usually associated
with the Dragon U15's
> The U15's on Saturday drew 2-2 with Yeading Wanderers at St Marks. The
Dragons had a slow start and found themselves 2-0 down at half time. The
recent spate of games took its toll but the Dragons kept going and with
15 minutes to go scored. The game was on and 3 minutes from the end
Yeading cruelly hacked down an innocent Dragon resulting in a penalty
which was coolly slotted home to secure a draw.
> The U15's beat Hayes Gate 6-4 at St Marks on Sunday. Fans will remember
the first game of the season against an overly aggressive Hayes Gate
where the Dragons lost 0-4. The tables were turned in this the last game
of the season. Hayes are a team stuck in the dark ages of the 1970 &
1980's using totally unacceptable language egged on by their parents.
The only way to retaliate was to beat them which the Dragons duly did.
> The U14's lost 1-5 to Lyndhurst at St Marks on Sunday. The U14's were
simply exhausted after a run of daily successive games the week before
and could not summon up their competitive spirit.
Sunday 13th April 2008 Results
A mixed week of torrential rain and brilliant sunshine lead to an
equally mixed weekend:
> The U18's drew 0-0 with Yeading in a frustrating but tense league game
where the Dragons dominated as the better
team but could not score.
Yeading have battled through to the League Cup final and must count
themselves lucky that an administrative error denied the Dragons their
chance to meet Yeading in the League Cup
> The U17's lost 1-4 to Harrow St Mary at St Marks. The Dragons scored
first and but for some unlucky breaks and questionable decisions should
have clung on to their slender lead. Harrow took their opportunities
where they could and
felt lucky to win by such a margin
> The U16's beat Brunswick 5-1 at St Marks in memory of Jay. The Dragons
pulled ahead to 2-0 before losing shape and letting Brunswick back in
the game before the break. A stern half term talk reinstated discipline
and the Dragons went on to dominate and win by a hefty margin. The
Dragons were simply the better side with cover in every position.
> The U15's had no game
> The U14's beat Haringey Boro 5-2 on Saturday morning in the rapidly
arranged Supplementary Cup match. Despite being taken by surprise by the
fixture the Dragons were eager to play football following several Sunday
mornings in bed. The unaccustomed early morning start however lead to a
certain initial slothfulness and the Dragons found themselves defending
a one goal lead by Boro. The Dragons finally woke up, got into their
stride when 2-1 down and fought back to
win convincingly 5- 2. The U14's
look forward to meeting Greenford Celtic in the next round.
> The U14's drew 2-2 and then beat Pinner Albion 7-1 in a double header at
St Marks on Sunday. Management had to work hard, greasing the path to St
Marks to get a good squad turn out again for this much awaited
doubleheader. Sleep was the crippling factor again as the U14's gifted
Pinner an early goal whilst they dreamed over their cornflakes. The
Dragons
played the better attacking football but missed a series of dead
sitters, it could have been 5 -1 at half time. The goals came in the
second half to deflate Pinner but the Dragon winner would not go in the
net leaving the final score at 2 - 2. A quick turn around saw the Dragons score early and get in their
comfortable stride with clever passing football leaving
it 3- 0 at half
time. Tactical changes were made and great performances unleashed from
several players to go on to win 7-1. The low point of the season has
been well and truly buried.

Sunday 30th March 2008 Results
A wet week, combined with the clocks going forward, lead to much
excitement getting players to the right place at the right hour before
telling them not to bother as games were called off. The lead up had
been intense with the hugely successful "Annual Dragons Quiz" on Friday
followed by the Girls resounding victory on Saturday:
> The U13 Girls beat Ruislip 3-0 at the Westway. Ruislip turned up en
masse in gleaming new colour coordinated kit with followed by numerous
Managers and Coaches taking long copious notes in colour coordinated
notebooks. The Dragons got down to business and proceeded to play good
passing football with the inevitable result of a resounding Dragons win.
> The U18's beat Bessingby Park 4-1 and then drew 1-1 in a double header
away. The Dragons dominated the first game and won decisively. In the
second Bessingby scored fist to be 1-0 up before the Dragons equalized
and then proceeded to pulverise the Bessingby goal but without actually
putting the ball in the back of the net. Bessinbgy were lucky to gain
their single point to the Dragons 4.
> The U17's game at St Marks against Parkfield was called off due to a
waterlogged pitch
> The U15's had no game
> The U16's game away against Brunswick was called off due to a
waterlogged pitch
> The U14's game against Hampstead at Birbeck was called off due to a
waterlogged pitch
> The U12's lost 1-3 to Celtic away in a good game marred by inappropriate
Celtic adult behaviour. The U12's gave Celtic an early own goal before
playing magnificently to equalise before half time. Back on the pitch it
looked like the Dragons were sure to win with a disciplined defence
backing up good passing moves, resulting in great shots at goal -
unfortunately the Celtic goal appears to be lower than the average and
the Dragons shots soared over the cross bar. Exasperated to see defeat
looming the Celtic crowd lost all sense of proportion and invaded the
pitch to spoil a good game. Understandably the Dragons lost
concentration and let in two goals.

All Games called off last Sunday
> A wet windy week gave way to a wet Saturday night and all games being cancelled. Rumours that certain Dragons
were not altogether distraught as they pulled their respective duvets over their heads are unfounded.
Sunday 9th March 2008 Results
A weekend of drama, wins and losses:
> The U18's beat Woodside Park 7-0 and then 2-0 in a double header at
Birbeck in a good natured game officiated by a league appointed referee.
The premiership is now dominated by four teams, including the Dragons,
who are hoping that one of the other would be leaders will trip up.
> The U17's had no game
> The U16's lost 1-2 to St Lawrence away in an unsatisfactory game marred
by the Dragons giving away one goal and then poor referring awarding St
Lawrence a penalty. What was almost an exciting contest between Dragons
skill and St Lawrence brutishness was spoilt by the two goals leveraging
the game to mediocrity.
> The U15's beat Wealdstone 0-4 away to avenge a 4-3 lose 2 weeks ago. The
Dragons started playing some awesome football from the first whistle and
dominated the game to be 2-0 up at half time. The Wealdstone Manager
became increasingly frustrated and badly behaved as the Dragons played
even better in the second half whilst displaying iron discipline in the
face of poor Wealdstone behaviour.
> The U14's lost 2-5 to League winners Roundwood giants at Birbeck. The
Dragons started well, floundered in the middle and then finished with a
flourish. It did not help that a Dragons defender was stretchered off
the pitch by a dastardly Roundwood tackle resulting in a red card and a
penalty that the Dragons missed.
> The U12's lost 2-3 to Bessingby Park Rangers at St Marks. The Dragons
let in a soft goal in the first minutes but pulled back to 1-1 at half
time. Again the Dragons gave away a soft goal and again the Dragons
fought back to 2-2. Bessingby finally scored a proper goal and then
desperately defended their lead as the Dragons peppered their goal but
alas to no avail.
Sunday 2nd March 2008 Results
Another fine Sunday welcomed the Dragons:
> The U18's beat current Premiership League leaders Ruislip Rangers 1-0
away in a tense hard fought match which gave much "satisfaction" to the
Dragons. Ruislip, who had only lost two matches this season, are a hard
physical side who could not wear down the more skilful Dragons despite
winning most headers in the first half. Back on the pitch it remained
0-0 until 10 minutes from the end when the Dragons scored the winning
goal to massed hysteria from the crowds. A very great win.
> The U17's had no game
> The U16's beat the Pitshanger goalkeeper 6-0 at Birbeck. The Dragons
were clearly on top for most of the game but some splendid saves from
the opposition goalie kept the score down to sensible proportions. Our
congratulations must go to Pitshanger who tried hard throughout and kept
their discipline to the end.
> The U15's had no game
> The U14's beat Parkfield 7-4 at St Marks following weeks without a game.
The rather stiff U14's sized up against Parkfield for their first match
of the season at St Marks - a welcome return to the hallowed DEN. Lack
of match awareness showed but eventually the Dragons found their quick
passing skills and put two away before half time. The 2nd half saw
Dragon mistakes give away easy goals. By rolling subs and changing
tactics, the Dragons opened up their game and dominated the second half
with quick goals in succession to win 7 - 3. A good win to build on for
the remaining season
> The U12's lost 0-10 to title contenders Greenford Celtic at St Marks in
a closer game than mere goal statistics would indicate. After 25 minutes
it was evenly matched at 0-0 before Celtic scored and then scored again
without anybody actually noticing - except the Dragons linesman who
sportingly pointed out that the Dragon goalie was standing behind his
goal line as he saved the shot - possibly not the best demonstration of
positional play. The Dragons lost concentration and let in more goals
than planned. As the U14 Dragons manager is memorably quoted as saying: "We all need a low point in the season to gauge the magnitude of the
high points"
Sunday 24th February 2008 Results
With half term ended a warm sunny day saw 4 Dragons teams in action:
> The U18's beat London Tigers away 1-0 in the first game of a double
header but lost 2-4 in the second game. Both sides played football
commensurate with being premiership title contenders. After an hour of
exhausting fast flowing football the Dragons had won the first match but
could not rest on their laurels as after a short break it was onto the
next match. The Tigers finished 0-2 up at half time but the Dragons came
back to 2-2 in the second half before the Tigers pulled ahead to win
4-2.
> The U17's lost 1-2 at Birbeck to league leaders Bessingby Park in a well
refereed game. The Dragons have been rapidly rebuilding since a low
point at Christmas and were 0-0 at half time. Bessingby pulled ahead 0-2
in the second half but could not subdue the Dragons who scored and then
looked like scoring again only to be denied the vital second gaol by a
combination of great saves, hitting the post, etc etc. A good game.
> The U16's lost 1-2 to Princess Park at St Marks in a well refereed game.
The culmative effects of half term school trips, illness and injury
combined with a lassitude not normally seen in the Dragons lead to the
game being set for a 1-1 draw in a scrappy encounter. One minute from
the end Princess Park were awarded a free kick and duly walloped the
ball into the sturdy Dragons wall. The Dragons collectively heaved a
sigh of relief whilst Princess Park pounced on the rebound and gently
stroked the ball towards the Dragons goal and were rewarded with seeing
the ball slowly roll over the goal line. Dear o dear.
> The U15's had a training game with Acton Ealing Whistlers and won 7-1.
The Dragons were missing a few squad players due to injury and other
commitments and so took the opportunity to try out some new players
> The U14's had no game.
> The U12's beat Ruislip Town 3-1 at St Marks in a fast and furious game.
In a gesture of sportsmanship the Dragons offered both linesman's flags
to Ruislip. The Dragons went 1-0 up within minutes but conceded a goal
to be 1-1 at half time. A finely judged half time talk saw the Dragons
gradually overcome Ruislip and slot in two well earnt goals. Another
welcome win
Sunday 17th February 2008 Results
After a frosty night the day opened up to be clear, crisp and sunny.
With half term in full swing there were only three Dragon teams playing:
The U18's beat Yeading 6-1 at Birbeck. The Dragons had a full squad and
did not want a repeat of the last encounter where Yeading came back in
the last 10 mins from being 2-0 down to draw. At half time The Dragons
were 3-0 up and at full time 6-0 up with Yeading outplayed and
outclassed.
The U17's beat FC Kensington North 4-1 in a friendly at St Marks where
the result was less important than the opportunity to try out new
players. The Dragons were 4-0 up at half time but had difficulty in
scoring in the second half. FCKensington tried hard throughout the match
and were rewarded with a fine goal two minutes from the end. A good
natured game enjoyed by all.
The U16's had no game
The U15's beat Alpha and Omega 6-1 at St Marks. After the ignominy of an
unaccustomed beating last week the Dragons were returned to near full
strength and were determined to play to their potential. The massed
crowns looked benignly on as the Dragons dominate the game to romp home
clear winners.

The sun shone and it was magnificent to be out on the playing fields
enjoying the cut and thrust of football - unless you were an U15 that
is, in which case you probably wish you had gone on holiday with the
rest of your teammates:
>The U18's were awarded 3 points after Kodak defaulted the match
> The U17's lost 1-4 away to Brookhouse under curious circumstances. On
arrival the Dragons Manager was whisked aside by his counterpart and
told that "Brookhouse was under investigation" and that the appointed
referee, Keith Chamberlin, was unavailable at short notice. "Luckily"
Brookhouse had "found" a ref - drama was clearly scheduled. Brookhouse
went 0-2 up before the Dragons started to dominate, pulling back to 2-1
before scoring again to make it 2-2 except that the Referee announced
that the "ball had not gone over the line" before pressing on in quick
succession to give Brookhouse a penalty at the other end. It was clear
that the script had been written with Brookhouse winning 1-4 which they
duly went
on to do.
> The U16's beat Hanwell Town 3-1 at St Marks. The Dragons started better
than of late and kept Hanwell at bay for 15 minutes before going 0-1
down. Hanwell cavorted around the pitch in a "Strictly Come Dancing"
fashion to celebrate whilst the Dragons did up their bootlaces. A fierce
battle ensued and at half time it was still 0-1 to an increasingly
confident Hanwell. Back on the pitch Hanwell practiced their corners
whilst the Dragons cleared off their line and mounted counter attacks.
Suddenly it was 1-1 then 2-1 before Hanwell lost their shape, plot and
determination as the Dragons hammered home their third goal. How the
mighty are fallen.
> The U15's lost 13-2 away to North Greenford in an unusualy heavy defeat
for the Dragons. A combination of half term, GCSE's revisions and
marathons had reduced the Dragons to a pale shadow of their true selves.
It was still however a
very poor showing against a more attacking side
who went 1-0 up after only 3 minutes and then carried on scoring to the
end. Even now Management is making moves to address the situation before
the next match.
> The U14's had no game
> The U12's lost 2-7 away to the mighty machine known as Greenford Celtic
who have scored over 70 goals this season whilst letting in only 4. It
was always going to be a difficult game. The new Dragons team faced up
well to the challenge
and scored two glorious goals but, despite
magnificent goal keeping, let a few more in. The Dragons are coming of
age and it will not be many seasons before the are beating the likes of
Celtic.
Sunday 3rd February 2008 Results
While the rest of the country suffered blizzard conditions the Dragons
heartland remained a dry, if cold, oasis of calm. For the historically
minded this was the weekend where rugby enthusiasts rose from their
armchairs at half time thinking mildly patronising thoughts of Wales
with England poised for a massive win but, as all Dragons know, it is
not over to the final whistle. On to the results - readers may want to
pay particular attention to the U14 Manager's inspirational quotation
aptly demonstrating the power of words to turn defeat into victory:
>The U12's drew 2-2 with LNER at St Marks. The Dragons got off to a
tremendous start and scored within seconds. LNER plugged away and drew
level before the Dragons pulled ahead to 2-1 at half time. Back on the
pitch the Dragons dug deep and held LNER at bay but could not get the
third goal. Alas as the final whistle grew closer the Dragons lowered
their guard and the ruthless LNER pounced in the final minutes to score
a lucky equaliser.
> The U14's lost 1-7 against Pitshanger. The Dragons elected to play
against the strong wind in the first half and were unlucky to be three
goals down at half time. On the turn around the Dragons started the
better team but missed several dead sitters and seemed to be sapped of
energy when the Pitshanger ref awarded his side a penalty. Creative
substitutions with a depleted side could not shore up the dyke and with
the loss of our goal keeper at half time it was never going to be
pretty. "We all need a low point in the season to gauge the magnitude of
the high points" the management was creatively quoted to have said after
the match.
> The U15's beat Wealdstone 4-3 at St Marks in a match to remember.
Wealdstone turned up at the wrong ground and then at the right ground 32
minutes late. The Dragons started playing awesome 2 touch football,
finding space and troubling Wealdstone who however were the first to
score. The Dragons were baffled as to what had happened but found it
difficult to play against the wind as a lucky Wealdstone 40 yard shot
was blown into the back of the Dragons net. Enough was enough, the
Dragons started to concentrate and pulled back to 2-2 at the half.
Wealdstone crept ahead to 3-2 but the Dragons scored to make it 3-3.
Wealdstone could see victory ebb away as the strong Dragons team took
control to score the winning goal 2 minutes from the end.
> The U16's beat Pinnacle away 3-1 in a well controlled game. Pinnacle
came out playing the better football and were surprised to find
themselves 1-0 down at half time against a generally scrappy Dragons
side whose stars were not starring. A pointed half time talk convinced
the Dragons of the errors of their ways and they played much better
football in the second half. Pinnacle continued to play well but the
Dragons prefer to win and gradually built up to 3-0 before almost
allowing a deserving Pinnacle side their consolation goal.
> The U17's lost 2-6 against Pitshanger at Birbeck where the Dragons
displayed the courtesy of sharing the refereeing duties. The Dragons
took time to knuckle down and found themselves 0-3 down at half time.
The second half was better with the Dragons scoring twice to
Pitshanger's 3.
>The U18's had no game
Sunday 28th January 2008 Results
The sun shone, the grass grew and Dragons everywhere donned their kit to
play a
full set of matches:
> The U18's beat Greenford Celtic 2-0 away in a well refereed game. The
Dragons played the better football, created opportunities to score but
did not always capitalise. At this level there are not many scoring
opportunities and they
have to be taken when they come. At half time it
was 1-0 to the Dragons and 2-0 at the end - it could have been 8-0.
> The U17's lost 0-3 to St Lawrence at St Marks in a well refereed game.
The Dragons entered the pitch rusty from
too little football over the
last few weeks. At half time it was 0-0 but as the second half
progressed St Lawrence
pounced on lapses of concentration and scored to
win. The Dragons can take heart from the first half.
> The U16's drew with league leaders Hanwell 1-1 at St Marks. Despite
their manager's homily to "take warming up
seriously" the Dragons
started vaguely and within minutes were 0-1 down. Lesser teams would
have wilted but the Dragons dug deep and played their part in a
thrilling hard fought competitive game. Scoring chances were created by
both sides but Hanwell were possibly the more unlucky: hitting the post;
offside; goal line desperate defender clearance
and a fingertip save
over the crossbar; to the Dragons rather tamer shots into the goalie's
hands or miss hits off goal.
The Dragons never let up however and
minutes from the end a goal mouth scramble lead to the well deserved
equaliser. A good, well refereed game, enjoyed by all.
> The U15's drew 2-2 away against league leaders St Andrews. The Dragons
played well but a miss hit from St Andrews was tapped in. The Dragons
fought back to 1-1 before St Andrews broke down the wing catching the
Dragons off guard. After the break the Dragons dominated play but had
difficulty getting through the St Andrews packed defense. The
opportunities came but offside, hitting the bar and a disallowed goal
kept St Andrews 1-2 up. Finally a vital tackle
outside St Andrews area gave Dragons the ball and the vital goal to
spoil St Andrews day.
> The U14's beat Hillingdon Borough 2-1 on a well prepared Birkbeck pitch.
Both sides took time to settle with the Dragons being slower off the
mark. Boro pressured first but the re-knowned Dragon's defense held,
including a marvelous header off the goal line. The Dragons reversed the
pressure and the left back popped one in over the keeper from halfway.
The 2nd half favoured Boro at first and following a long throw, and
several rebounds, they scored to level. The Dragons created many scoring
opportunities but could not put the ball into the net with the Boro
keeper having a particularly good game. The Dragons switched the attack
and midfield and suddenly the space was there and the second and winning
goal was put away. A great team performance in a good competitive
spirited game.
> The U12 lost 0-1 away to Acton Ealing Whistlers. The Dragons started
slowly. Unfortunately Acton saw their chance and took advantage of the
Dragons rather relaxed approach and scored within minutes of make it
0-1. The Dragons gradually woke up but temporarily forgot the importance
of passing and moving into space for the next pass. Individual Dragons
players charged up the pitch with great displays of individual
virtuosity but games are won by team work. Acton could not score again
but alas neither could the Dragons who went down to a narrow defeat.

Sunday 13th January 2008 Results
A wet week led to most games being postponed:
> The U18's beat Finsbury Park 5-3 at Wormwood Scrubbs. The Dragons
started with the howling wind urging them forward and were a little
disappointed to be only 2-1 up at the half. Back on the pitch Finsbury
quickly equalised to 2-2.
The Dragons had no alternative but to roll up
their sleeves, bat the howling wind aside and get on with the job of
scoring. Soon it was 3-2 then 4-2 before Finsbury pulled back to 4-3 but
the Dragons proved their essential brilliance
and
scored the "coup de
grace" to make it 5-3 at the final whistle.
> The U12's lost 0-8 to St Joseph's away in a game held on a mud bath and
officiated by a St Joseph's player ref.
The huge St Joseph's players
strode through the mud as the smaller Dragons squelched and waded
through the
mud trying to play football. On the many occasions that the
Dragons managed to squelch their way, hauling the ball
through the mud
with them, to the St Joseph's goalmouth the ever vigilant linesman
flagged vigorously for offside.
A trying day which left the Dragons
surprisingly cheerful and looking forward to the next game.

Happy 2008! The somnolent break is over and Dragons everywhere leapt out
of bed eager to be back on the pitch with mostly good results:
> The U12's beat Acton Ealing Whistlers 4-1 at St Marks Park. The Dragons
were soon 1-0 up before conceding a silly
free kick to level the score.
Back after the break the Dragons lengthened their stride and
increasingly demonstrated
their sharpness to power ahead to 4-1 at the
final whistle. A great start to 2008.
> The U14's beat Lyndhurst 5-3 away in a thriller. The Dragons started
slowly and were 0-2 down at halftime. Back on
the pitch The Dragons
roared back to 2-2 before forging ahead to 3-2 before Lyndhurst pulled
back to level the score
at 3-3. Finally the Dragons got into top gear
and went on to dominate with a passionate last quarter and win 5-3. A
great start to 2008.
> The U15's were robbed by Heathrow Club 3-2 away in a badly reffed game
where the Heathrow Manager treated the offside rule as an added weapon
in his arsenal and spoiled the game. The Dragons finished the first half
1-0 down
after being repeatedly wrongly flagged offside. Back in the
changing room the Dragons were told to ignore poor
reffing and play the
best football they could in the circumstances. Soon it was 1-1 and then
2-1 to the Dragons before Heathrow scored twice to win despite being
blatantly offside.
> The U16's just beat the U17's 4-3 in a friendly at St Marks where the
score was less important than the opportunity to
run off the cobwebs.
The U16's mostly dominated the game until the last 15 minutes when the
good spirit and resilience
of the U17's lead them to pull back.
> The U17's played the U16'S as above
> The U18's drew 2-2 with Yeading away. The Dragons dominated to lead 2-0
up to 10 mins from the end before complacency lead to Yeading scoring
with a fine shot from 20 meters. As the Dragons wilted Yeading kept
their
noses to the football grindstone and scored again in the last
minute from a corner. A frustrating start to 2008
Sunday 16th December 2007 Results
On a clear, dry, crisp but windy day, the Dragons set forth for their
last games of 2007:
> The U18's beat Hillingdon Borough 3-0 in a great display of footballing
skills. Hillingdon went into the game confident in
their position of
being 2nd in the premiership and having only lost one game. The Dragons
knew better and went into the second half 2-0 up. Hillingdon were
determined to score and pressurized the Dragons unremittingly but could
not break through and then conceded a fine break away Dragons goal to
leave the field comprehensively defeated.
A great end to 2007 for the
Dragons.
> The U17's did not play.
> The U16's drew 2-2 with Springfield away. The Dragons took time to wake
up against a strong determined physical Springfield side, who very much
appreciated the gift of a first goal, which the combined efforts of the
Dragons had
difficulty not saving. Emboldened by the Dragons generosity
Springfield peppered the Dragons goal only to be repulsed
by fine
goalkeeping. The Dragons gradually picked up and by half time had pulled
back to 1-1. Playing up hill the
Dragons grafted away until they had
pulled ahead to 2-1 and then held on for the inevitable win until 30
seconds from the end when the equally inevitable happened and it was
2-2. Frustrating - but calmer reflection reminds one that the
Dragons
have 4 points and Springfield 1 point from the two encounters.
> The U15's beat Heathrow Club 8-3 at St Marks. Having found the nets,
cleared dog mess off the pitch and
persuaded Heathrow that using their
yellow kit was sensible the game finally got underway. Within 12 minutes
the Dragons had scored despite the Heathrow Manager's flag being
continuously raised for offside. At half time it was
3-2. The Dragons
dominated the second half playing 2007 football against the 1980 version
of calling continuously for offside whilst booting the ball up field for
large Heathrow players to hopefully pulverize their way to scoring.
> The Ul4's beat Park field Youth 6 - 2 away at their Hatch End stadium
amid good friendly sideline festive season banter. The Dragon defense
was near full strength keeping the opposition out. The real action came
from quick balls from the Dragons keeper to the wings where the speed
and hunger to score put the Dragons 3 up at half time. A little lapse in
concentration, and a big effort by Parkfield, allowed them back into the
game to 2 - 4. The Dragons switched back on
again and two defenders
decided that they would score the winners which they proceeded to do
with two powerful decisive goals . All the Dragons played in a good
spirited game well refereed by League Ref Quintin Fox. It was time
for
the U14's to hang up their boots and stockings for a well earned
Christmas break.
> The U12's lost 1-7 to an experienced St Josephs at St Marks. The Dragons
showed great spirit in adversity and kept
going throughout the game but
gradually tired as the St Josephs giants broke through for a clutch of
goals. The
Dragons refused to go down without a fight and ran their
heats out to score a magnificent goal in the dying minutes.

A wet windy weekend followed a wet week and few games for the Dragons:
> The U12's game against Ruislip Town scheduled at Birbeck was called off
due to a waterlogged pitch
> The U14's were robbed 0-1 away by FC Roundwood. The Dragons, reduced to
a mere 11 players on this wet and
windy Sunday, played with great
passion in the squelchy mud. It was still 0-0 as the seconds counted
down to the
final whistle. Roundwood were awarded a corner. They
proceeded to kick the ball out of play by a mile only for the
wind to
blow it back into play and score with the referee studiously ignoring
the linesman's flag.
> The U15's game against Wealdstone away was called off due to a
waterlogged pitch.
> The U16's drew 2-2 at full time and then 3-3 after extra time against
Brunswick away in the Middlesex Cup but then
went on to lose 2-3 on
penalties. The Dragons played exceptional football in the mud but
inexplicably let in 2 goals at
full time and then another in extra time
to allow Brunswick an ill deserved draw at full time. It was on to
penalties and
need we say more!
> U17's game away against Pinner Albion was called off
> The U18's game away against Headstone Manor was called off due to a
waterlogged pitch.

A wet week gave way to a freezing Friday but a warmer brighter Sunday
favoured football:
>
The U18's beat Pitshanger 2-0 at Birbeck in a one sided game that the
Dragons should have won 10-0. Ten minutes
into the game the Dragons
broke down the left, crossed and were obliged by a Pitshanger player
deflecting the ball into
his own net. The Dragons kept on pulverising
Pitshanger but could not put the .....ball into the back of the ......
net.
Finally minutes from the end the Dragons scored again to make it
2-0. Not the most pressing of engagements for the Dragon's goalie.
> The U17's won 4-2 at Birbeck against Headstone Manor in a generally well
ordered game. The touch of excitement between opposing players was
damped down by firm but friendly referring. The Dragons dominated the
first half and
retired to the pavilion 4-1 up. Headstone provided
sterner opposition after the break but could only pull one goal back.
A
convincing Dragons win.
> The U16's lost 0-4 in the League Cup at Birbeck to league leaders
Hampstead under the strict refereeing of HYFL
legend Howard Cartz. Hero
worship is one thing but aping the England team's performance is quite
another. The
Dragons had an off day against a well organised,
disciplined, well mannered side who simply played better football
on the
day. The Dragons are however bursting with talent and will give
Hampstead a much tougher game when they
meet in the all important league
> The U15's lost 3-4 to top of the table St Andrews at Wormwood Scrubbs in
the League Cup. The Dragons were trailing
1-2 at half time but pulled
back to 2-2 and then 3-3. The game was evenly poised to the end with the
Dragons missing
clear chances to win. Finally in the last 30 seconds St
Andrews broke down the right wing, crossed and found their unmarked
player who scored the winning goal seconds before the final whistle.
> The U14's lost 2-9 away to Premiership team Belmont United in the
League Cup. The Dragons went into the game with
a decimated defense due
to injury but started well. After 10 minutes the Dragons blinked and
when they opened their
eyes again they were 1-7 down. The second half
was much better with the Dragons scoring 1 goal to Belmont's 2.
It is
back to the all important league.
> The U12's won 3 points after the list of Kodak players ringing in sick
reached such proportions that they had to default.
One wonders whether
the recent sterling performances of the Dragons is beginning to sap the
confidence of their
rivals.

The U12's came of age this weekend pulling off a magnificent victory
whilst their elders struggled in parts:
> The U12's beat league would be leaders Celtic 2-0 at Birbeck in a
magnificent game. Celtic took the field the hot favorites
but could not
score - neither could the Dragons. At half time it was 0-0. The crowd
huddled together in the "brisk"
conditions enthralled as the action
unfurled. Finally the Dragons scored and then did so again. Celtic
fought back bravely
and pulled back to 2-1 but time was up. Another
great U12 victory.
> The U14's were knocked out of the Middx Cup in the 3rd round losing to
Brimstone Rovers 2-3 at Birbeck. Injury and illness had left the Dragons
depleted. Still the confident Dragons took on the visitors in good style
and it was 0-0 at half time.
With some strategic repositioning, the 2nd
half started with a completely different tempo and bang... the Dragons
scored followed by an Arsenal type celebration by the corner flag. The
Brimstone supporters raised their voices but the Dragons roared back....
and bang came the second goal. Brimstone were rattled and it was tense
along the side line as
they were able to up a gear whilst the Dragons
dreamed about lifting a trophy. Brimstone came back to equalize and the
tiring Dragons could not keep out their winner.
> The U15's lost 0-4 to Broadwater away. A mix up over times meant that
the Dragons had to frantically rearrange
transport for a 2pm KO. The
Dragons never managed to get on top of the game. Broadwater were not a
good team but
the Dragons were a poor team on the day. The Dragons
usual ability to pick up simple balls and feed the strikers was missing.
Some Dragons never stopped running and battling for every ball but
others were not at their best. Broadwater pounced on mistakes and
scored. The Dragons improved in the second half but it was too little
too late.
> The U16's Middlesex Cup tie was postponed as the previous Brunswick v
Princess Park round had been called off due
to the Princess's vehicle
breaking down enroute to the game. The Dragons instead had a training
game against Hanwell Town on a wet and windy Wormwood Scrubbs.
> The U17's lost 2-4 to Pinner Albion in the League Cup at Birbeck. Many
thought that the Dragons would make it through
to the semifinals but
luck was with Pinner as the Dragons missed opportunities including a
penalty. It is back to the
league.
> The U18's drew 2-2 with Larkspur Rovers away on a desolate pitch swept
by wind and rain which was devoid of
changing rooms. The Dragons played
poorly in the first half and were 0-2 down at half time. Back on the
pitch the
Dragons pulled themselves together and hauled back to 1-2. In
the final corner of the game a hitherto unknown
scoring Dragon hero
scored his first goal in four years to draw 2-2. Back from the brink!

The combined efforts of 6 football clubs based in superb playing
facilities over the
south of England were unable to defeat the Dragons
this week:
> The U18's beat Greenford Celtic 4-0 at Birbeck. The Dragons defense,
returned to almost its full strength, proved a rock against all the
efforts of Greenford to break through. The Dragons goalie was hardly
tested and was able to admire his fingernails as the game raged far away
around the Greenford goal. At half time the Dragons were 2-0 up; at full
time 4-0 - a symmetrical win that marks another step towards ?
> The U17's beat Pitshanger 3-2 away under a good ref on a superb ground.
The Dragons stumbled at the start and were
0-1 down before pulling back
to 1-1 at half time. The Dragons lead increased to 2-1 before Pitshanger
pulled back to 2-2 whereupon the Dragons powered the crucial winning
goal into the back of the Pitshanger net. A good natured
competitive
game refereed well. The U17's are on their way to be a superb team.
> The U16's beat Pinnacle 5-0 at Birbeck in a one sided game against a
well drilled, but less competitive Pinnacle team, who were no match for
the Dragons winning machine. Statisticians have noted that the Dragons
have not lost since the
very first game when the players had not
realized the season had started.
> The U15's drew 2-2 with league leaders Greenford at Wormwood Scrubs.
Greenford scored first to be one up at the
half. The Dragons pulled back
but Greenford scored again to keep their lead. The Dragons redoubled
their efforts and
drew level 18 minutes from the end. Try as they might
the Dragons could not score the elusive winning goal and had
to be
content with a draw.
> The U14's drew 3-3 with Greenford Celtic at Birbeck. Greenford started
the game determined to win and were 2-0 up
at half time against a
Dragons side still basking in the complacent glory of last week's win.
Changes were made and
sinews stiffened before the Dragons went back onto
the field of play determined not to lose. Greenford scored again and the
Dragons were staring defeat in the face. It was time to dig deep. As the
Dragons clawed their way back to 3-3 Greenford's discipline crumbled and
their occasional good manners disintegrated.
> The U12's beat LNER 4-3 away in a cliffhanger. The Dragons started
fantastically and were 3-0 up before LNER scored
a minute from half
time. At the restart LNER made the best of the slope and pulled back to
3-2, the Dragons responded before LNER scored yet again. The tension
mounted as the diminutive U12's scurried around the huge pitch like ants
chasing a tennis ball desperate to stop LNER scoring. Finally salvation
came with the final whistle. Never had the
shrill tones sounded so
sweet. A Win!
Sunday 4th November 2007 Results
A crisp bright Sunday brought the best out in the Dragons despite the
vicissitudes
of the occasional poor reffing marring the generally sunny
outlook:
> The U12's had a day off.
> The U14's beat league leaders Greenford Celtic 5-1 away under the expert
reffing of a HYFL institution. Back from
illness and injury, the Dragons
fielded a strong side bursting with confidence. The Dragons captain
bravely decided
to play up hill in the first half and it was even
stephens for 15 mins until the Dragons midfield decided it was time to
make the move which resulted in a goal just before half time. Playing up
hill had slowed the Dragons so fresh legs
were put on to restart. Celtic
came out the better team and with a searing run from midfield leveled
the score. Their
elation was short lived however as the Dragons picked
up the pace and with some outstanding passing and
controlling scored and
scored again to take the game beyond Celtic's reach. A magnificent
result.
> The U15's beat Yeading 4-0 away. From the off the Dragons pressed the
strong Yeading side on their semi
professional pitch. Within 10 mins the
Dragons were up 1-0 and then 2-0 at the half. In the dugout the Dragons
were given strict instructions to score again to finish off Yeading -
which being law abiding citizens they duly did.
Yeading fought back
bravely but superb goal keeping kept them at bay. Yeading started to
interpreted the offside rule somewhat flexibly to stave off the
inevitable Dragons 4th goal but eventually the ball was rammed into the
back of the Yeading net to make it a resounding Dragons victory.
> The U16's drew 3-3 away against league leaders Hendon with their ref
officiating. The Dragons elected to play uphill
into the sun and during
a period of indifferent play conceded two goals. At the half time break
Hendon plotted to defend
their lead whilst the Dragons plotted to win.
The Dragons knuckled down, refused to be beaten and duly scored twice
and then in the dying seconds scored the triumphant winner. The referee
reexamined his watch, decided there was still
time to give Hendon a
penalty and promptly did so to make it 3-3 before quickly blowing the
final whistle. "We Was
Robbed" was a common refrain.
> The U17's beat Headstone Manor 4-3 away with the Headstone Coach
officiating loudly and vigorously. The Dragons
kept one step ahead
throughout the match. At half time the Dragons were 2-1 up before
Headstone pulled back after
the break to make it 2-2. The Dragons
powered ahead to make it 4-3 before letting in a silly goal just at the
end. A
fairly unpleasant game which had the saving grace of returning a
win for the impeccably mannered Dragons
> The U18's lost 2-5 away to Finsbury Park with the Dragons Coach even
handedly reffing. Finsbury Park had found
the tube system challenging
and arrived an hour late for the game. Some teams may have pounced on
this technical
error to claim 3 points. No so the Dragons whose watch
word is "Win or Lose Fair and Square". Despite being reduced
to a frail
shadow of their normal robust self through injury, illness and, dare we
say, girlfriends, the Dragons generously agreed to stage the game and
did the best they could in reduced circumstances.
Sunday 28th October
Fellow Autumnal Dragons.
Many more Dragons goals than opposition ones again this week:
> The U18's drew 3-3 with Ruislip Rangers at Birbeck. It looked as if
Ruislip's fearsome reputation was justified as they quickly scored
twice. The Dragons woke up and pulled back to 2-2 at half time. Back on
the field the Dragons pushed relentlessly and eventually chipped the
ball over Ruislip's goalie to make it 3-2. Alas minutes from the end
Ruislip scored to make it a 3-3 draw. An irritating result for the
Dragons who could have won. Those of a calmer disposition scent a return
to top premiership form as this was a credible result against an
undefeated team who have only let in 1 goal all season.
> The U17's beat Northolt Rangers 3-2 away under the auspices of a
Northolt ref. The Dragons were 1-2 down at
half time but kept on
plugging away in the second half to score twice to gain a well deserved
victory. The future looks
bright for the Dragon U17's.
> The U16's joined with the U14's for a training game at Birbeck with
every goal being a Dragon goal
> The U15's beat Ruislip Manor 11-0 away in the League Cup. The Dragons
were 7-0 up at half time. The going was
tougher in the second half as
the Dragons had to cope with playing uphill - by the time they had
climbed the summit
they were too tired to score more than another 4
goals. It is on to the next round for an increasingly confident Dragons
side.
>The U14's joined the U16's for a training game.
> The U12's lost 2-5 away to Wealdstone. The Dragons found the conditions
wet and squelchy as the wind howled
across the Wealdstone stadium. After
10 mins Wealdstone scored and then very quickly scored another 2. The
Dragons dug in and pulled one back before the break. Back out on the
mudflats Wealdstone eventually scored twice.
The Dragons fought to the
end and scored their second well deserved goal in the final minute. As
the new U12's get to
grips with competitive league football it will
interesting to see which of the players mature and develop into battle
hardened match winners.

A week may be a long time in politics but it is even longer in sport. A
week ago the Rugby World Cup, European Football Finals and the Formula 1
Championship appeared in the grasp of this sceptered isle. All is not
gloom however as the Dragons scored some resounding victories in the
Middlesex Cup.
> The U12's had a training session.
> The U14's go through to the next round of the Middlesex Cup after
Enfield Town could not face the Dragons and defaulted.
> The U15's beat Wealdstone 3-0 at Birbeck in the Middlesex Cup in a
largely unpleasant game with Wealdstone being particularly "aggressive
and foul mouthed". The Dragons concentrated on playing football. The
first goal came after 30 minutes when the Wealdstone goalie failed to
hold the ball from a Dragon's shot. Wealdstone were particularly
aggressive after the break but could not stop another Dragons goal. The
third Dragon goal came from a scramble in the
box as 2 shots cleared off
the line before eventually the Dragons slotted the ball into the back of
the Wealdstone net.
On to the next round.
> The U16's beat Beckham's old club Ridgeway Rovers 5-0 at Birbeck in the
Middlesex Cup. The Rovers knew they
would win and happily discounted the
first Dragon goal as an aberration. Gradually the Rovers settled into
their
match winning formula of good decisive passing and keeping shape
whilst their Manager smiled benignly on. The
Dragons lost their shape
and the Rovers scented a break through. The Dragons scented something
different, dug into
their ample depths of character and resilience,
pulled themselves together and proceeded to hammer goals into the
back
of the Rovers net. The Rovers were well and truly beaten. On to the next
round.
> The U17's lost 1-6 away to Bessingby Park in a well reffed game against
a very good side. Bessingby were up 3-0
at the half. The Dragons pulled
one back in the second half but alas Bessingby scored another 3. Seven
minutes from
the end the brave Dragons goalkeeper jumped up for a ball
and in the resulting collision was accidently injured and
the game was
drawn to a halt. The goalie was taken to hospital as a precaution where
the injury was judged to be
not serious. We wish him a speedy recovery.
> The U18's lost 1-3 to Whetstone Wanderers away in the Middlesex Cup with
an even handed referee on a good pitch. Illness and holidays had taken
their toll on the Dragons and the team was under strength.

Bonjour mes Dragons.
Le rugby est magnifique n'est ce pas? 28 Dragon goals to a more limited
12 for the oppositions this week:
> The U12's beat Ruislip Town 3-2 away in a thrilling contest to match
England's rugby win. Ruislip opened the scoring
and showed every sign of
powering their way to a win on their home ground. The Dragons dug in,
pulled back and
then scored again after the break to make it 2-1.
Ruislip equalised. The intensity rose. Ten minutes from the end the
Dragons were awarded a free kick. The Jonny Wilkinson of the U12's
strode up, the crowd held their breath as the ball curled over the wall
into the top left hand corner of the Ruislip net. Grown men cried. The
Dragons held on through a lengthening second half until the home ref
reluctantly blew the whistle. The Dragons had won!
> The U14's lost 1-4 to Isledon Wolves at Birbeck on a beautiful sunny
afternoon. There was disbelief in the Dragon
camp at the size of Iseldon
players ...surely some mistake in the fixture!! When queried the Iseldon
manager produced
a letter from the Isledon Chairman confirming the
Iseldon players were not in fact 22 years old. A incontrivertable piece
of evidence. Iseldon scored within minutes whilst the Dragon right
winger lay hacked down on the pitch as play
continued in confusion for
them to score an undeserved goal. Two goals followed in the first half
as the Dragons
found it hard to make headway and lift their heads
against the Isledon giants. The second half was a different story
as the
lighter, meaner and keener Dragons got back into their game
demonstrating dazzling talent from veterans and
new boys alike. The one
Dragon goal did not give credit as countless shots squeezed past the
Isledon post or just over
the bar. The Dragons keeper was superb at
holding Wolves back and saved a great penalty to boost the young Dragons
in their attack. A spirited Dragon come back needed the might of the
English front row on this occasion.
> The U15's beat Harrow St Mary's 7-1 away. The Dragons dominated the game
winning much needed balls in the
centre of the park whilst the defence
held steady as a rock. After the break the Dragons scored to make it
4-0.
Harrow pulled a goal back but within minutes the Dragons scored
again to make it 5-1. The Harrow manager
expressed his "disapointment"
and was seemingly booked. The Dragons goalie was unshackled from his
goalposts
and
his rare run out on the park resulted in the 6th Dragons
goal before the final 7th to make it a 7-1 victory.
Another resounding
victory for the Dragon U15's
> The U16's demolished the brave London Tigers 14-0 at Birbeck. This was
not a day to be a Tiger. One fears the
Dragons are in for a shock when
they finally meet a team up to their standard.
> The U17's lost 1-3 away to Parkfield with a home ref who confessed to
this being "his first time". Parkfield were 0-1
up at the half and then
back on the pitch piled on another two. The Dragons regrouped, scored
and then proceeeded
to remourcesessly attack Parkfield's goal but, alas,
to no avail. The ever vigilant Parkfield linesman was quick to spot
various misdemeanours effectively blunting the Dragon moves. An
experience possibly not to be savoured.
> The U18's drew 2-2 at Birbeck against Larkspur Rovers. The Dragons were
the better side during the first half but
could not score to make it 0-0
at the half. Back on the pitch the Dragons scored but then proceeded to
squander opoortunites as Larspur pulled back to 1-1. Again the Dragons
scored and again they could not convert opportunities.
In the final kick
of the game Larskpur scrambled a late goal to the huge jubilation of
Larkspur - to them it seemed like
a win. The Dragons will have to
concentrate to the final whistle.

Commiserations to our Antipodean rugby fans - as any Dragon knows it is
always difficult playing better sides.
Can we advise resisting the
temptation to blame the ref
as true Dragons know this should only be
done in extreme circumstances. The
answer might be to actively promote
the concept of a minor competition for the
less accomplished teams.
Anyway on to football:
>
The U18's narrowly lost 1-2 away to Hillingdon Borough. The Dragons
looked set to repeat recent successes and
were 1-0 up at half time.
Hillingdon pulled back to 1-1 and then battled on with 10 men to pull
back the winner. The
football is tough, skillful and competitive in the
Premiership. The Dragons look forward to the return home match.
> The U17's had no game as Lancaster Diamonds had withdrawn their team
> The U16's beat Princess Park 9-0 away in a mild game. Princess Park are
in a period of transition - not the best time to meet the finely honed
Dragons.
The only criticism of the Dragons was that they had difficulty scoring -
the eventual 9
goals was a meager harvest for such an abundance of
opportunities.
> The U15's narrowly lost 1-2 to Alpha & Omega away with the sides evenly
matched. The first half finished 0-0 with
both teams in need of a good
team talk. In the second half the Dragons started well and with a change
in midfield
seemed more potent - after 10 minutes the ball was slotted
into the middle of the Alpha net. Alpha pulled back as both keepers
pulled off amazing saves to keep out the elusive winning goal. Finally
the luck was with Alpha who scored
via a corner. A thoroughly good
natured competitive game that could have gone either way.
> The U14's had no game.
> The U12's were beaten 0-6 away by Premiership Harrow St Mary's in the
League Cup. This was a difficult game so
early in the new team's career.
Such games are however an essential part of growing in maturity as a
player - after
all what great sportsman has not been at the receiving
end of a drubbing in their career?

Fellow Autumnal Dragons, another successful week for the Dragons:
> The U18's beat Woodside Park 8-0 away in the League Cup in a game in
which the Dragons were in command of from beginning to end. Woodside
played with gusto but were no match for the well drilled Dragons. The
Dragons were 2-0 up
at half time before powering away in the second half
to score another 6 goals. Roll on the next Round.
> The U17's were beaten 2-6 by Premiership Springfield in the League Cup.
The match was played on a superb ground
with an experienced referee
officiating. The Dragons found it difficult to breach the well
disciplined Springfied defence.
It is never pleasant to lose but
Springfield were on this occasion the better side and the Dragons at
least had the
satisfaction of wearing their new kit for the first time.
> The U16's were awarded their match against London Tigers, who had
withdrawn, in the first round of the League
Cup. Roll on Round 2.
> The U15's beat Hayes Gate 1-3 away in the League Cup - avenging last
week's result. The Dragons peppered the
Hayes goal but the home
appointed referee, advised by his home appointed lines man, repeatedly
called offside. Hayes
took their chance and lead 0-1 at half time. The
Dragons shuffled the midfield and went back onto the pitch determined
to
win - soon it was 1-1. Three minutes later the Dragons scored again and
then again. The Dragons held firm despite having to substitute their
goal keeper and then having the game mysteriously carry on for an extra
15 mins. The players shook hands setting an example of good
sportsmanship to some overly aggressive home supporters.
> U14's drew 4 - 4 with Hampstead away in Crouch End in a tense hard
fought match on a great pitch. The Dragons
were down three key players
and had to rely on strategy. Soon the Dragons were 2 goals down but
then pulled
back to lead 3:2 at half time. With a depleted squad the
Dragons had to conserve energy but we went on to score
another to make
it 4-2. The Hampstead ref then increased his use of the offside rule
hampering the Dragons whilst Hampstead got one back. It was end to end
football with many off sides flagged on both sides and in the dying mins
Hampstead scored...with the ref seemingly unaware that the flag was up
for off side and that the "Hand of God"
played its part in the goal.
> The U12's held a training session as their Springfield opposition could
not field a team.
Sunday 23rd of September 2007 Results
The Dragons finely balanced operation cranked up another gear as the
teams
started to get into their stride:
> The U18's beat Yeading of FA Cup fame 7-2 in the Premiership at Birbeck.
The Dragons controlled the game from
start
to finish and missed more
chances than they converted into goals. Fans will be keeping a close eye
on the team
and wondering whether they should be backed next year to be
the first Dragons senior side and enter the FA Cup.
> The U17's lost to FC Kensington at Wormwood Scrubs. At half time the
Dragons were staring an uncomfortable
disaster
in the face being 1-4
down. To put it bluntly the first half was a shambles. The Dragons are
nothing if not
resilient however and they dominated the second half to
pull back to 3-4. If the game had carried on another 10 mins
an
objective observer would have opined that the Dragons would win.
> The U16's beat Springfield 3-1 at Birbeck. The first half was a little
limp with the Dragons carry politeness to
inappropriate levels - "you
first" is not a winning formula. A stern talking to at half time pointed
out the error of their
ways and the Dragons went back onto the pitch
determined to win which they did in increasing style. The squad is
strong and deep enough to only get better.
> The U15's lost 2-4 away to Hayes Gate in an overly aggressive game where
the Hayes Gate tribal chant of "Hunt
Like A Pack" perplexed the Dragons
who were under the impression that they had turned up to play football.
At half
time Hayes were leading 2-0. The Dragons lifted their game in
the second half and peppered the Hayes goal but were
only rewarded with
2 goals - as were Hayes.
> The U14's beat Pitshanger 3-2 at Boston Manor. The Dragons started off
scrappily missing their injured veteran
defenders. Pitshanger
relentlessly pounced on the Dragons and ruthlessly took advantage of a
below strength
Dragons defence. The score reached a tantalising 2-2 with
both sides straining to get the magic goal. The Dragons
prevailed and
then desperately defended to hold on to the lead and a win.
> The new U12's lost 1-5 to Bessingby Park away in a good natured game.
The Dragons came face to face with reality
in competitive league
football and were 0-3 down within 10 minutes. At half time it was 0-4.
The massed fans asked themselves "Can the new Dragons cope?". Cope they
did. Changes were made and the Dragons pulverised Bessingby
to
eventually score a magnificent goal whilst having numerous goals
disallowed by a referee who considered that he
had a better view than
the lines man who firmly kept his flag down.

We are off! With preseason training over the Dragons were back in action
for the
first games of the season. Dragons wishing to gain an insight
into the pressures
and pleasures of youth football should buy a copy of "You'll Win nothing With Kids"
by Jim White - currently "Book of the
Week" on Radio 4. The Dragons can look
forward to another sizzling
season of setbacks and triumphs which add up to
many things except
blandness:
> The new U12's drew 3-3 with Kodak at our temporary Boston Manor ground.
With St Marks temporarily out of action
our new Dragonettes set off to
the wilds of Boston Manor to play the hugely experienced Kodak. Within
10 minutes the Dragons were 3-0 up. Kodak were bemused; the Dragon
massed fans apoplectic with joy. At half time it was still 3-2. Minutes
from the end the Dragon Goalkeeper rushed out to the ball and collided
with a Kodak attacker. The referee
curiously awarded Kodak a penalty
which lead to the eventual score of 3-3. A great start.
> The U14's beat Hillingdon Borough 3-0 away. The Dragons policy of mixing
new signings with tried and tested
veterans worked to great effect with
the Dragons being up 2-0 at half time. The Dragons continued bombarding
the Hillingdon goal but a number of superb saves kept the eventual score
down to 3-0. A tremendous start to the season.
Even at this early stage
one can scent success.
> The U15's beat Hanworth Villa 6-3 at Wormwood Scrubbs in the first
round of the Middlesex Cup. The Dragons
dominated the first half with"awesome 2 touch football" which resulted in 3 goals. Hanworth trooped
out of the pavilion determined to get back into the game and pounced on
Dragon mistakes to make it at 3-3 full time and so it was on to
extra
time. The fitter stronger Dragons decided it was time to win and powered
in three goals to make it 6-3. On to the second Round.
> The U16's lost 0-2 away to Princess Park. The match was generally
scrappy with both sides rusty and finding it
difficult
to play on the
Princess Park pitch which would be better used as a ski slope. Eight
mins from the end the
score remained 0-0 when a momentary lack of
judgment(to use a polite description) lead to a Dragon hand ball....in
the penalty area....in front of the ref. Princess Park whooped with
delight, scored, the Dragons wilted and Princess
Park scored again. A
poor result which will not be typical of the season.
> The U17 lost 4-5 to Pinner Albion at Boston Manor in a generally good
natured fluctuating game which enthralled
the crowd. Pinner opened the
scoring; the Dragons responded - and so it went on. Ever time Pinner
scored the Dragons responded with a goal. The only flaw with this
approach is that Pinner lead the way so that when the final whistle blew
the Dragons had narrowly lost.
> The U18's match against Kodak was abandoned at 2-2 with when a Dragon
unwisely retaliated when pushed. Both players were red carded and the
referee sensibly decided that he had better things to do and abandoned
the match.
